About Tim
I have a rich academic background to bring to the table, with a BSc in Theoretical Physics (Dean's List Award, Graduating Top 10) and an MSc in Quantum Dynamics (Graduating Top 10), both at Imperial College London. I am also the youngest lecturer of Physics (teaching Quantum Physics at master's level) at the University of Barcelona. I believe this gives me a great advantage to teach in a way that others will understand as I have recently had to study many of the topics I now lecture - I know which bits were hard, and what was hard about them because learning them is a recent memory for me. I've honed my teaching skills over 7 years of dedicated tutoring every week. During this time, I have taught (click "see more" to see the full list): - A-Levels: Over 1000 hours teaching maths, further maths, and physics with extensive experience in exam prep for various boards, and a 96% success rate for students getting their grades. I have also helped students with their personal development, career paths, and personal statements. - University entrance exams: Over 700 hours preparing students for the MAT, PAT, TMUA, STEP II, and STEP III papers. - Undergraduate and Masters: Over 1500 hours of teaching physics and mathematics covering elementary undergraduate topics like vector calculus, real and complex analysis, differential equations, linear algebra and tensors, to electromagnetism, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and more advanced topics like quantum field theory, group theory, differential geometry, condensed matter etc. My mission is to transform seemingly complex topics into accessible knowledge, ensuring that you not only grasp the content but also develop a profound appreciation for what is a beautiful and elegant subject. There's nothing more rewarding than witnessing the moment when understanding clicks, the proverbial penny drops, or that sought-after lightbulb moment occurs in STEM subjects. Driven by an insatiable curiosity and a passion for problem-solving, I am eager to share the gift of maths and physics far and wide. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Quantum Sciences, I collaborate with leading players in the private sector of quantum technologies through a partnership with ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences. One day, I hope to be able to start my own Quantum Technology company, and this idea is the premise of my PhD! I regularly attend and present my work at top conferences internationally, and am currently guest-lecturer for a quantum physics course for Master's students in the University of Barcelona. I am a dual national (English/French) based in and around London, enjoying both the outdoors and music. Alongside my scientific pursuits, I am an avid musician and composer, actively participating in the UK YMSO and having been an alumnus of the University of London Symphony Orchestra (ULSO).

I place an emphasis on curiosity, questions, and personal development to help you develop mathematical "soft skills" e.g. lateral thinking, expressing thoughts mathematically, and forming precise understanding of logic and recipes. As such, my teaching style is dynamic, interactive, and most of all focused on fundamentals. Almost all of mathematics is governed by a small set of concepts and tricks, and understanding their logical connections enables you to form a web of knowledge which is clear and intuitive. Together, we can develop and consolidate core concepts to give that intuitive "gut feeling", revolutionising the way you connect a wide range of topics under a unified conceptual framework, and instilling a genuine appreciation for the subject. I'm proud to have a 97% success rate for A-level students achieving their grades, including A*s. I also have a 9/12 Success rate for STEP students getting accepted into their target university on results day (Cambridge, Imperial, St Andrews, Warwick), and can help prepare exams like the MAT, PAT, and TMUA. Click "see more" so see how I do this in three steps (undergrads - detail below)... Three steps for mathematical success: 1) Foundations and context - here we motivate problems and concepts so that we understand why certain techniques are important, and why to use one over another as opposed to blindly following recipes. 2) Consolidation and visualisation - here we focus on deriving key results and visualising their consequences to gain an intuitive understanding of their origins. This will allow us to place concepts and results in a unified framework by solving problems together. 3) Refining and problem solving - here we focus on developing independence by testing our intuition and solving more extended problems that connect our newly established results from (2), further consolidating ideas into a connected web of knowledge. For undergrads: Check out below for a list of taught topics - I have loads of great insights, tips and tricks for mastering your courses, reports, thesis and applications to graduate studies and PhD places! I have helped with a range of things, from exam prep, resits, proof-reading, learning about scientific writing, and general week-by-week help staying on top of courses. - Statistics - Calculus - Integration techniques - Linear Algebra - Real analysis - Complex Analysis - Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations - Group Theory - Functional Analysis - Fourier Analysis - Topology and Differential Geometry - Probability and Measure Theory. Tim has been an incredibly supportive and professional tutor, who has enabled my daughter to grow in confidence with her maths in order to be able to write the MAT exam. He helped her progress from being uncertain on how to approach the challenging questions, to having a variety of mathematical tools at her disposal. He’s been very organised, structuring lessons effectively and always looking for a way to challenge his students. Offering support with her personal statement too, we are both incredibly grateful to Tim for all his hard work in the university admissions process.
Tim has been a fantastic teacher of physics over the last two years of my bachelors degree. Together, we covered electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, statistical physics and maths (PDEs, Fourier and complex analysis). His lessons were taylored to my course making every hour count and explanations were intuitive and visual which was especially helpful! After each lesson, i got PDF copies of our notes, as well as useful handouts and resources to consolidate.
I cannot reccomend him enough, and frankly the price is a bargain for the value and resources i got. Tim was also able to provide feedback on my lab reports and other pieces of coursework aswell, and definately played a part in inspiring me to follow onto an MSc.Tim tutored me in maths for my A levels. Thanks to his help in stimulating my learning I was able to achieve an A star and get my place at Imperial College London. He has a tremendous teaching style, not only teaching content well and in an interesting manner but teaching how to learn and revise efficiently. Would highly recommend him to anyone.
