About Daniel
I graduated from Imperial College London with a first-class honours degree in Mathematics and completed a PhD in Mathematics from the University of York in 2013. Since graduating I have continued to pursue a career in academia, holding several postdoctoral positions in research institutes across Europe and Asia. In 2018 I was awarded a three year Research Fellowship from the European Union to study mathematical problems in quantum theory and applications in quantum technologies. The ultimate aim of my project is to develop both theoretical ideas and practical methods to harness the power of quantum theory in new and emerging quantum technologies.
While I primarily focus on research, I have been actively engaged in teaching during all of my previous positions, leading seminars and tutorials for undergraduate and masters students in pure mathematics, theoretical physics and computer science. Currently I am the lecturer of a first year undergraduate course in Mathematics for Economics and Finance, and a seminar leader in Mathematical Analysis. As an undergraduate student at Imperial I tutored A-Level Maths and Physics students, and volunteered in charity organisations such as the Royal Institution, which aims to encourage school students to learn some of the more interesting aspects of maths and science courses offered at university.
My main motivation in private tutoring is to prepare potential maths undergraduates for their university entrance exams. This includes STEP and MAT preparation for future Oxbridge, Imperial and Warwick candidates. My aim is to give each student, no matter their background or experience, the knowledge and confidence to be fully prepared for their admissions tests. I have successful experience tutoring both exams, and will prepare strategies and guidance which are tailored to the strengths of each student.
I thoroughly enjoy my role as a teacher and embrace the opportunity to create a teaching environment that stimulates curiosity, inspires independent enquiry, and allows creativity to flourish. It is my aim to facilitate a learning culture that allows students to experience the joys of mathematical and scientific discovery, whilst ensuring they possess the qualities that equip them fully for exam success and any future challenges.
