About Tim

Looking for a maths tutor who truly understands how students learn, retain, and excel under exam pressure?

I am a fully qualified secondary maths teacher (QTS) holding a PhD in Pure Mathematics. Alongside my classroom career, I have experience marking official GCSE papers to a high accuracy and standard as an examiner. I know exactly where students lose marks, how mark schemes are applied, and what it takes to secure the top grades.

My teaching isn't about passive memorisation or just surviving the next homework assignment. It is grounded in evidence-informed cognitive science. In our lessons, we will use proven techniques from the Science of Learning to move maths from short-term memory into long-term mastery:

• Retrieval Practice: Every session begins with low-stakes testing of past topics to fight the "forgetting curve" and build fluency.

• Managing Cognitive Load: I break complex A-Level and GCSE concepts down into bite-sized, easily digestible steps so students never feel overwhelmed.

• Dual Coding: I combine clear verbal explanations with precise visual diagrams to reinforce abstract mathematical structures.

Lessons are highly interactive and tailored to the specific exam boards (Edexcel, AQA, OCR). We target the exact gaps in your child's knowledge, work through structured exam-style problems, and master the specific mathematical vocabulary required by examiners.

Whether your child needs to secure a passing grade at GCSE, or is aiming for an A* at A-Level/Further Maths to secure a top-tier university place, I can provide the elite support they need.
