About Floyd

I have loved mathematics since my middle school science and algebra classes. However, I don't love the way it is taught in schools. After a year of education in the math department at the University of Oregon, I realized that there are missing pieces in the way math is being talked about. I believe it should be a fun and interesting topic that connects students to all other aspects of education and the world. Now, I don't have all the answers to every math problem but I love the problem-solving process, and that makes me a great math teacher.

My Teaching Approach

I believe mathematics is best learned through understanding, not memorization. My lessons focus on breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps while building confidence and problem-solving skills. Also, working closely with students to see their thought process can help me find better ways to help the mathematics feel more natural.

Teaching Method

* Clear, step-by-step explanations
* Guided practice and worked examples
* Personalized lessons tailored to each student's needs
* Focus on both conceptual understanding and exam success

Typical Lesson

1. Review previous material and answer questions
2. Introduce and explain new concepts
3. Work through examples together
4. Practice problems with feedback
5. Summarize key takeaways and next steps

What Sets Me Apart

I am a mathematics major who has been disagreeing with the system for a couple of years. I understand why students struggle in the current structure of classes, and I believe in teaching math in more productive and fun ways.
