About Steve
Hello! My name is Lehlogonolo Makena, and I am a Civil Engineering student at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). I have always enjoyed Mathematics, and I achieved 85% in the subject. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to tutor learners at my former high school and help my university classmates with Mathematics, which showed me how rewarding it is to see someone grow in confidence and improve their understanding.
I am passionate about teaching because I know that many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they need concepts explained differently. My goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning from their mistakes. Every lesson is tailored to the student’s needs, and I focus on building both their mathematical skills and their confidence. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals and showing you that Mathematics can become one of your strengths.

Mathematics does not have to be difficult—it simply needs to be explained in a way that makes sense. As a Civil Engineering student at the University of the Witwatersrand, I use mathematics every day and understand the challenges students face. My lessons are tailored to each student’s learning style, whether they need help understanding new concepts, preparing for tests and exams, or improving their problem-solving skills. I focus on building confidence, breaking down difficult topics into simple steps, and giving students plenty of practice with guidance. I have experience tutoring high school learners and helping university classmates with Mathematics. My goal is not only to improve marks but also to help students become confident, independent learners who enjoy solving mathematical problems.
