About Rachael
I have in the last six years taught English in some capacity. During my time as an undergraduate, I served as an academic officer for three years, teaching lower-level courses and organizing tutorials for my mates. I also helped a remarkable number of students in navigating their final thesis and helped them determine the focus of their paper. My success in this position made me decide to work with adult English Language Learners (ELL) after I graduated from college where I taught basic vocabulary to explanations of rather confusing idioms. Currently, in graduate school, I serve as a writing center tutor where I have been able to help a diverse range of students navigate different writing issues. My tenure as a tutor has equipped me with the experience of teaching at an advanced level, helping both graduate and undergraduate students navigate not only content, grammar, and punctuation errors, but also citation issues in their papers. Several trainings on citation styles, tutoring multilingual students, and students with differences have further provided me with cultural competence to work with diverse groups of people across any culture or background.

My teaching method is based on student-centered discussion. I encourage my students to comments in class and ask questions as often as necessary. I also always try to improve my students' reading. Providing students with reading material that interests them and helps them to understand the joys of reading for pleasure. My approach to tutoring can be summarized as more activity based, using questioning, explaining, demonstration and collaboration techniques.
