About GBOYEGA
I teach piano with the belief that every student has the potential to express themselves through music—and that process begins with curiosity and trust. I focus on building a reliable technical base, including hand posture, finger independence, rhythmic control, and fluent reading skills, but I also see each lesson as a space to cultivate creativity, confidence, and joy. I adjust my teaching approach to fit each student’s unique learning style, making sure that our lessons feel both productive and personally meaningful. I use games, improvisation, listening exercises, and visual aids to keep concepts clear and engaging. I’ve worked with beginners who are just discovering the piano, advanced students preparing for exams, and adults who are finally pursuing a long-held dream. One powerful teaching memory involves a teenage student who used music as a way to navigate anxiety and self-doubt. Through supportive and structured lessons, they not only improved technically but also found a greater sense of emotional expression and calm through their playing. I believe deeply in the power of music to transform how we relate to ourselves and the world. I aim to make each lesson a step toward that kind of transformation. I believe piano lessons should nurture both technical skill and artistic voice, and my teaching approach reflects this balance. With years of experience teaching students from beginners to advanced players, I customise each lesson plan to fit the individual’s interests, pace, and goals. I focus on fundamental techniques such as hand positioning, finger agility, rhythm, and sight-reading, but I also integrate musicality by emphasising dynamics, phrasing, and emotional interpretation. Encouraging creativity is key—I often include improvisation exercises, composition prompts, and exposure to diverse genres ranging from classical to jazz to contemporary pop. Technology plays a role in my studio, using tools like audio recording and digital notation to provide visual and auditory feedback that enhances learning. I stress the importance of consistent, mindful practice and help students set achievable goals to maintain motivation and track progress. One memorable success story involved a young student who overcame stage fright through gradual exposure and focused performance coaching, eventually delivering a confident recital performance. My lessons are designed not only to improve piano technique but to build musical confidence, foster expression, and develop a lifelong passion for music.
