Statistics has become one of my strongest and most rewarding areas of instruction. I have several years of tutoring experience teaching students at both the high school and college level, including elementary and introductory statistics, probability, applied statistics, data analysis, and more advanced statistical topics. I also assist students with Data Science and Data Analytics coursework, helping them understand not only formulas and computations, but how statistical ideas connect to real-world applications. I work with R programming and statistical software as well, helping students move beyond memorization toward practical understanding and problem solving.
My goal is not simply to help students complete assignments or pass an exam. I focus on building intuition and understanding so that concepts actually make sense. Statistics can often feel overwhelming because students are presented with formulas before seeing the larger picture. I work to break down difficult ideas into understandable steps and help students gain confidence in the material.
My academic path began with a strong interest in the conceptual sciences, which initially led me to study Physics. Physics is broad and naturally integrates advanced mathematics, physical sciences, analytical thinking, and problem solving. Through that background, I completed extensive coursework in advanced mathematics, physics, and chemistry before continuing my education and earning a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Electrical Engineering itself spans many disciplines. My concentration focused heavily on electronics, circuit theory, and solid-state electronics. The analytical framework developed through Physics and Engineering provides a strong foundation that translates across many STEM subjects. As a result, I am comfortable tutoring a broad range of material from high school through university level, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering concepts, and related coursework.
University was only the beginning of my education. I discovered that I had a genuine passion for helping students learn and found tutoring to be far more rewarding than pursuing a traditional engineering position. Teaching continuously expands my own knowledge while allowing me to help others achieve their academic goals. I ultimately chose tutoring as a full-time profession because I enjoy seeing students gain confidence and develop real understanding.
I am a full-time private tutor and teach seven days per week with several years of experience working with students from diverse educational backgrounds. I offer flexible tutoring options and can accommodate many schedules.
I provide tutoring in-home, at libraries, coffee shops, and similar convenient locations depending on student preference. I also regularly conduct online sessions through Zoom and similar platforms. Online tutoring works extremely well for many courses because screen sharing allows us to work directly through assignments, lectures, notes, software, and problem sets together in real time.

Perfect! I had my first tutoring session with Derek via Zoom, and we quickly established a weekly two-hour at-home schedule. We actually began meeting before my course officially started, and those early sessions were invaluable. They gave me the foundational tools and confidence I needed to succeed once the coursework began.
Derek was always flexible and made himself available on Zoom whenever scheduling conflicts arose. He came to every session prepared, was ready to dive right in, and consistently offered valuable information and insights on each topic we covered. He provided support at every step when I needed it, making challenging material much more manageable.
Without Derek’s guidance, I would not have had such a positive experience in this course. I highly recommend him and absolutely plan to continue working with him for my next course, Trigonometry.- Joseph is an Excellent Mechanic at General Atomics, many years in the field. My final semester I had intro to Differential Equations. The professor was very hard making the class about operators and a lot of advanced math. This was the first math class I ever feared. I have worked with Derek's Tutoring Services for multiple semesters. I found him on Craigslist and first contacted him about General Chemistry 1. I Aced Chemistry and owe it all to him.
