About Dima
I am a PhD-qualified educator and Chinese Studies specialist with more than 20 years of experience studying, using, and working with the Chinese language. I have spent over 10 years living in Chinese-speaking environments and have used Mandarin in academic, professional, and public settings, including translation work, Chinese language competitions, and appearances on Chinese national television.
Having learned Chinese as a non-native speaker myself, I understand the challenges learners face and the strategies that help them succeed. I enjoy helping students achieve their goals, whether for travel, business, academic study, examinations, or personal interest.
Teaching allows me to share not only language skills but also a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, society, and communication.

My lessons are tailored to each student's goals, background, and learning style. I use a research-based teaching approach developed through over 20 years of experience studying, using, and working with Chinese, more than 10 years of immersion in Chinese-speaking environments, and extensive work with learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
My methodology is specifically designed for non-native learners of Mandarin and addresses the challenges commonly faced by students from different language backgrounds. Depending on individual goals, lessons may focus on speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar, or practical communication skills.
Lessons are suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners, and for secondary school students, university students, and adult learners.
I hold a PhD and offer lessons both in person in Nelson and online worldwide. Lesson duration is flexible and can be tailored to the student's age, level, and learning objectives.
