I love to teach English to foundation phase children in a creative way! I have a 3 year diploma in graphic design and have assisted Gr 1, 2 and 3 children with their English and reading for 8 years.

About Nicky
For me, it's always thrilling to see progress in a small child learning the English language! I know that language and reading opens doors to understanding so many things.
I have a good rapport with most small children and I enjoy spending time with them. I have spent 8 years assisting at a local school's aftercare but chose to leave recently as the hours did not suit me anymore. I miss the homework/tutoring part of the afternoon and would like to do that again in my own time. I have a creative mind (I also studied to be graphic designer and do some work in that field too) and I also have a daughter who has Down syndrome, so I have had practice in being very patient. I am naturally good at spelling and grammar and I have also done a TEFL course as a refresher.

I like to approach lessons with foundation phase children (Gr 1, 2 and 3) so that they are a happy experience. I take time with students to ensure understanding before continuing with something new. I am a great believer in honing the skill of reading, so that is a big focus. I can understand Afrikaans very well, so I would be able to teach an Afrikaans child.
