About Juanita
Juanita is a voice, piano, guitar and ukulele instructor based in Montreal, Québec. She started her musical training at the age of seven at the prestigious music school of renowned Colombian musician, Charito Acuña. She holds a BFA in music with a minor in psychology from York University from which she was granted the University’s Continuing Student Scholarship in 2018. She holds a DEC in Infographic Design from LaSalle College and a College Diploma in Social Science from Dawson College, where was on the Honour Roll for two consecutive years.
Juanita has performed in various world music ensembles, including York University's Balkan Ensemble and York University's Cuban Ensemble. She has worked for several years as a music teacher in various music schools which led her to open her own music school based in Montreal, Québec - The Canadian Mobile Music School. The C.M.M.S is a multilingual, multicultural music academy where we're not just teaching music; we're redesigning music and language education! The school's approach harmonizes passion, creativity, and personalized learning.
In addition, she has worked as a music therapist volunteer, at Holland Bloorview Hospital where she assisted kids with special needs, helping them experience the social, cognitive and physiological benefits of music instruction.
She also teaches students with academic difficulties, including those with ADD. She incorporates theory and practice into creative, personalized lesson plans. Juanita is comfortable teaching repertoire from genres such as: popular music, jazz, R&B, world music and musical theater.
Juanita is cognizant and encouraging of individual learning styles. She forges a trusting relationship with her students, building upon their strengths. She is known for her gentle approach to teaching. She has a special gift for connecting with her students and helping them find their own unique voice.
