About Kira Phoenix
I have helped students of all ages and back ground develop projects, supported sketch book development and worked on creating visually exciting portfolios for applications. As a tutor I have always enjoyed working with students over a longer period of time in order to build a strong working relationship that is nurturing and confidence building.
I have lived in and travelled to many countries, I can support SEN students and I am dyslexic myself. I graduated from Central St Martins in 2010 and The Royal College of Art in Glass and Ceramics, with a distinction for my thesis, in 2015. I continue to work as an artist and run my own studio in Wimbledon, London.

IN PERSON LONDON PHOTOGRAPHY
*I am also open to discussing tuition that combines elements from each of these three courses to create a bespoke programme for you.
MY EXPERIENCE
I have been working as a Tutor and Mentor since 2009. My approach to teaching is an holistic one. This method encourages all students to engage with each lesson and helps build confidence in their own skills. I also teach other creative subjects, including Fine Art, Design (Product Design, Graphic Design, and Interior Design), Textiles, Ceramics, Architecture. I also teach English Language and English Literature, which is a helpful tool when it comes to writing annotation in their sketchbooks, essay writing and any other written work that might require.
I would be able to help students develop their own visual style through learning different photography techniques, the use of different types of cameras (digital, film and Polaroid), help develop their research skills, annotations skills, presentation skills, ideas development, support when writing their final evaluations for the project and website copy. I would also be able to introduce each student to the inspiring range of photographers who express themselves through photography array of visual languages.
CREATING A STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO
If you are looking at creating a cohesive project, all work will go into a sketchbook with a final outcome at the end of the project. If needed I can also take students to different galleries so they can see the different styles of artwork on display, and include these visits in their sketchbooks as it counts towards external research. I would also be able to help with organisational skills through developing strategies, timetables and making sure all items have a home that is easy to navigate.
As most projects are time sensitive it is important that the student comes prepared and ready to work. The first session will be used to create a plan, set goals, talk through process and share any information about the project. I have also collated a ‘Sketchbook Handbook’ that will aid in the creation of the sketchbook and will be shared with the student during the first session via a dedicated and secure google drive they will have access to. It is also crucial that the student allocates additional time towards working on their sketchbook outside of the sessions, so we can complete pages as quickly and efficiently as possible. This process helps to be prepared to work independently.
I have experience of all the England based exam boards and would be able to tailor the classes to this student's needs. I graduated from Central St Martins Sculpture department in 2010 and from The Royal College of Art in 2015, with a distinction for my thesis.
DEVELOPING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS
I can help mature student develop their own business model through ideas development, visual support for their product and create a pitch that would be of interest.
I can also help with:

How to photograph products
Initial Website design
Discussion on how to create a Social Media presence
Writing copy - social media posts, mail-outs, website etc
Support with Application writing
IN PERSON LONDON PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
You will learn how to:
Use 35mm/120 film cameras
What film to use in different shooting situations
Measure light for proper exposure using a camera’s light metering system
Measure light using hand held light meters
Use filters and what their effect is on film
Compose shots for effective images
Day 1 - 30 minutes
On the first day we will have an introductory zoom call to discuss your goals and shooting locations. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask me any questions. Prior to the zoom call you will receive a course package, including shoot ideas and basic photography information, which we will also run through.
Day 2 - 2 hrs
We will spend 2 hours shooting in a chosen London location, with focus being on composition and choosing the correct exposure for the shot.
Day 3 - 2 hrs
Developing on from the first shoot, we will then start exploring different tonal qualities using black and white film.
Day 4 - 2 hrs
Final shoot bring together all your knowledge from the previous shoots.

INITIAL CHAT
Before we book in any regular sessions I like to book an Initial Chat over zoom that last for 30 minutes. This is a great way for us to meet, for you to ask any questions you may have, discuss what you would like to achieve and set goals. The Initial Chat is charged at half the hourly rate.

*PLEASE NOTE: Some sessions will be taking place on Zoom where needed. I usually take on new students who are looking for weekly tuition with a minimum of 1 hour per session, please let me know if you need more flexibility. I run a first come first serve service for session booking.
