About Mike
Hi, I’m Mike!
I tutor A Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics, with 4 years’ experience teaching GCSE, A Level and university students. Over this time, I’ve developed clear ways of explaining challenging topics, making them more accessible and engaging.
As a physicist with a PhD, I bring not only subject expertise but also deeper insight into *why* the methods work, not just *how* to use them. My aim is to help you build genuine understanding and confidence, while also refining exam technique to maximise marks.
A little about me: I got my PhD from the University of Bristol in 2024, where I studied theoretical quantum physics. I then did a 12 month postdoc (research position) at the University of Manchester, and I now work at a quantum computing company.

Perfect! My daughter has been having online lessons with Mike for 18 months now. We have both found Mike to be excellent. My daughter feels confident in letting Mike know where she is struggling and goes over any work that came up at school.
Equally, I have found that Mike communicates with me about how my daughter is going and the progress she has made.
Initially, we were both worried about having an online tutor as we felt face to face would be better - this has not been a barrier at all.
I would HIGHLY recommend Mike :)Perfect! Mike took my daughter from a predicted A-level C/D grade in Maths and Physics to a B in both subjects. His approach of using past papers and questions really helped cement what she was learning in class and also prepare and increase her confidence in exams (both mocks and actuals). His ability to explain concepts in multiple ways (because of his knowledge in the subjects) meant that she could understand each topic. Highly recommended.

I’ve had a really positive experience working with Mike as a maths tutor. Mike is an excellent tutor. He supported my son through his A-level Math and Physics exams, he made an effort to understand where my son’s weak areas were and provided tailored lessons with revision guidance for each lesson. He went through mock papers, exam techniques and what to focus on. Mike is very thorough and patient in his approach, he made sure my son understood each question before he moved onto the next.
