About Emma
I study philosophy at the VU in Amsterdam. Thanks to my great interest in the profession, it can be done in addition to my bachelors degree in law. I have self-made summaries about the greatest Western philosophers (from Plato to Aquinas to Arendt) because of this I am familiar with main points of the greatest Western philosophers.

With regard to philosophy, I prefer to listen first to the wishes of the students. If there are no further specific wishes, I think the best way of teaching philosophy is to give the students a helicopter view of the subject matter: in terms of the specific philosophers, the philosophical movement and (how it fits into) the philosophical era. What such a helicopter view looks like in concrete terms depends of course on the study material of my students. I also prefer that the students co-write: this way they make a summary that they can also rely on outside of the lesson and this way they process the material better, which helps in regard to preparing for a test. To make sure that the material has been properly understood and sufficiently processed, I would like to ask the students to explain the material to me themselves. I like to see philosophy as stories. If you can retell these stories, converse about them, use them in a discussion and form an opinion about them: then you are often in the right place.
