About David
I am not a ‘native’ speaker of Italian: I did not grow up speaking it. Yet, I speak now it at a near-native level, passing easily in Italy as Italian, so that, when I do reveal to Italians that I am not, in fact, really Italian, they always ask how it is I speak it like one. Well, I have had a lot of help.
I developed an ear for Italian early, hearing my mother’s family speak as a child and learned the Italian arts of conversation and conviviality that fueled my passion for the language. I have also been able structure my language learning through years of university classes in Italian, which gave a solid grammatical base to my passion for speaking. And lastly, I have been lucky to spend lots of time all over Italy over the years, happily speaking to anyone and everyone I can.
The point is, Italian is my passion, I love it. But it takes some help to learn. I’ve been lucky with it, and it’s my mission share it and make it accessible, whether you want to speak fluently, prepare for a trip, or just enjoy learning a language that interests you.
My passion for the language comes first, but I am also a professional educator with a degree in Italian and advanced degrees in Foreign Language Instruction and Linguistics. I have taught and tutored for 10+ years and helped loads of students with their Italian journey. I hope to help you too!

As an experienced educator, I offer engaging, personalized lessons in Italian to meet your needs, whatever your level, interests, and goals. I will stay up to date with your interests, progress, and areas of difficulty and use those to guide the authentic activities and materials we can use to best support journey with Italian.
I have taught for 10+ years and have a degree in Italian and advanced degrees in Foreign Language Instruction and Linguistics. Most importantly, I love Italian and speak it at a near-native level, most-often passing as fluent, though I have the added advantage of understanding the language from a learner and a linguist’s perspective, so I can translate these insights to you.
Learning Italian opens up some of the world’s most beautiful ideas, people, places, experiences, culture, and of course food (!), but of course, learning it outside of Italy can be rife with frustrations. If you like any of what you see here, I would love to be a part of your journey with Italian.
