About Mariella
Hi there,
My name is Mariella :) I'm from Germany, 33 years old and a current fine art student in Dublin. I used to be an architectural draftsman back home but worked, after a couple of years traveling, in customer support until recently. Since I went abroad, I have developed a big passion for languages and cultures. I love meeting people from all over the world and having a good chat about everything. Believe it or not but before I went abroad, I was not able to put a sentence in English together and I was not able to understand the native accent at all. I knew I could only learn when I am actually speaking but at school it is often not practiced - so I decided to travel. But not everyone has the luxury to leave everything behind and that is how I can help you there. I believe conversational lessons are crucial. Even more so than learning grammar and perfect spelling. That will come after you overcome the fear of speaking and actually using what you already know and build up from there. Over time I created a few hacks on how to learn and improve speaking new languages, which I would love to share with you.
Last summer, I taught English to very beginners in a community center to people who spoke a totally different language than I did and even though English is not my mother tongue and I haven't had any experiences in teaching languages, my students learned naturally through listening, repeating and eventually speaking. They absolutely loved the way I taught. They went home with a feeling of success and motivation to keep going and I was delighted to see their development. Especially in the beginning, it is very hard to learn a new language but I presume based on the way I learned English by throwing myself out there and forcing me to converse and listen on a daily basis (I was super shy back then and afraid of speaking English), I knew intuitively what my students needed to grasp the language and to get out with a little win each time.
Of course, if you have questions about grammar, I will do my best to answer them. If I don't know the answer during the lesson, I will look it up and get back to you :)

You will learn to speak naturally through conversation. You choose a topic of your liking or I will choose something that is useful and suitable for your German level. I will encourage you to speak as much as you can and I will correct crucial and repetitive mistakes.
I made the experience that having daily conversation is most fruitful. I would recommend doing 30 - 60 minute lessons as many days as possible. If you can't afford to commit everyday for a lesson, I can give you tips and homework for the time in between.
The lessons will be online through Superprof and you can chose any duration from 30 - 60 minutes , however if you need longer sessions, we can arrange that too. I am free evenings and weekends
To find out if I am the right tutor for you, we can arrange an online meeting to get to know each other a little bit. During your free lesson, I can assess your language level, clear any questions you may have and you can get an impression what is ahead of you.
I have experience with total beginner but as a native speaker, I can teach and converse with advanced students of cause as well.
Although my lessons are generally conversational, I can help with homework and translations too if need be.
