About Varda
Hello! I’m Varda, a native Chinese speaker and trilingual tutor (Chinese–English–Japanese), currently studying at Waseda University in Tokyo. I have rich experience in teaching Chinese through both structured lessons and language exchange, and I’ve helped students with everything from IB Chinese and school coursework to casual conversation and cultural understanding. As someone who has studied abroad and taught peers from diverse backgrounds, I understand how important it is to feel supported, understood, and motivated. My lessons are not only personalized and effective — they’re also built around creating a warm, encouraging environment where you can truly grow. My Teaching Style:
My classes are relaxed, interactive, and customized to your needs. I use a blend of conversational practice, reading materials, writing prompts, storytelling, and cultural references — whether you're a total beginner or an advanced learner working on fluency or academic writing.
I often bring in real-world materials: news articles, short stories, funny internet posts, and even Chinese memes — because language is alive, and so is learning.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Warm-up – casual chat or review from last class
Core Focus – grammar, vocabulary, or reading/writing/speaking activity
Cultural Corner – idioms, slang, or interesting cultural context
Wrap-up & Reflection – recap key points, small takeaway, and next steps
