About Me — From “Ugh, Afrikaans ” to “Ek’s verlief! ” Hi! I’m Shafeeqah, and I’m here to change the way you see Afrikaans. Growing up, I loved speaking Afrikaans at home — it felt warm, familiar, and natural. But at school? Completely different story. Teachers made it boring, classmates made it embarrassing, and slowly I started hiding the part of me that actually enjoyed the language. For a long time, I believed that speaking Afrikaans was something to be ashamed of. That it wasn’t “cool” or “useful.” But then I got the world’s most amazing Afrikaans teacher – a sir who didn’t just teach the language… he loved it. He made it exciting. He made it make sense. And in that classroom, for the first time, I saw Afrikaans for what it really is: a beautiful, expressive, and rich part of our culture. That’s when I realized: every student deserves a chance to fall in love with a subject like that. Because let’s be real — a teacher can make or break how you feel about a subject. And once Afrikaans felt like home again, I knew I had to share that feeling. So, I started tutoring. Not just to help people pass, but to help them feel something. To feel confident, understood, seen — and maybe even proud of being bilingual. Now I’m here, ready to bring my love for Afrikaans, my sir’s magic teaching style, and my student-to-student understanding to you. Let’s rewrite your Afrikaans story together — one fun, safe, and judgment-free lesson at a time.

Why My Afrikaans Lessons Are the Best Thing Since Sliced Melktert Let’s be honest – learning Afrikaans (or anything, really) from an adult can sometimes feel like studying under the watchful eye of the school principal. You’re scared to ask questions, you smile and nod even when you're confused, and you leave the lesson with more stress than solutions. I get it. I’ve been there. That’s exactly why my lessons are different. I’m a Grade 12 student who lives and breathes Afrikaans. I speak it at home, I get top marks, and I have the privilege of learning from an absolutely amazing Afrikaans teacher – so you’re getting secondhand gold. My lessons are made by a student, for students – which means I actually understand where you get stuck, where school lessons don’t always make sense, and how to explain it in a way that feels simple, chill, and (dare I say it?) fun. With me, you’re not just gaining a tutor – you’re gaining a study buddy, a cheerleader, and someone who’ll laugh with you through the tricky bits and high-five you through the wins. It’s a no-pressure zone, where all questions are welcome and where mistakes are just stepping stones (with a few giggles along the way). All-inclusive, all-accepting, and always student-friendly – because learning should never be scary. It should be lekker.
