About Thalia
I have volunteered as a student tutor for years, and have watched many of my students earn grades higher than they thought possible.
My most important goal, with every one of my students, is to inspire confidence in the student's own skills. Learning is a process, and no matter where a student starts, there is always room for improvement.
Adopting this mentality, I have won multiple academic awards for research and thesis-writing achievements. Though it was some years ago, I also won first place in state-wide competitions for mock trial and academic decathlon, in speech giving, interview, and history. I believe these writing and interpersonal skills is what made me successful in my career as a salesperson before I applied and was accepted to Law School. I hope to share my skills and experiences, while allowing room for personal growth for my students to figure out what makes them passionate. Then we use those passions to formulate goals to motivate students to achieve them.

I begin by assessing my students' skill level, so we know where our starting point is. From there, I can work with my student to determine goals and steps towards reaching those goals.
A typical lesson with me begins with a short review of anything covered in the prior weeks class before moving on to new topics.
I am capable of assisting in all topics up to grade 8 including social studies/history, english/language arts, science, and math.
I can assist in all levels of English, spelling, and grammar, up to and throughout college level courses. I am also happy to assist in resume preparation or application assistance for students applying to college.
