About Daryle Jamie
Hi, I’m Daryle Jamie (DJ for short) and I am a recent law graduate who has moved back to Kent. I studied English Literature and Language from GCSEs to A-Levels where I scored A*s and continued to study literary excerpts in a legal setting during my final year, where I achieved a 1st for my Law and Literature module on contemporary theatre.
Because of this, literature has always been a big part of my interests throughout my academic and personal life, but I understand that it can be overwhelming to refine and piece together the skills needed to create a cohesive commentary on literature. I can assure you that I’d be able to confidently guide students through their English Literature and Language curriculum.
In the past I have had some experience with Superprof as I did it part-time alongside my university studies. I have also mentored law students and provided feedback on their essay structure, writing, research and evidence citation. I do believe that good analysis and textual commentary skills are necessary in any career field as I have continued to utilise it in my other work placements — such as with SEQUENTUS, which provided clinical negligence legal advice and at Hall Brown Family Law in London. I am also undergoing an online training course for Teaching English Online provided by Cambridge University Press & Assessment to perfect my teaching skills on a remote learning level.

A typical lesson would depend on the student’s personal preferences, but I have found that an hour to an hour and a half works best for most. As aforementioned, many students find it difficult to understand the context as well as the text provided, which is crucial in passing but also unlocking higher grades in English exams, as it demonstrates that the student has their own commentary.
I would guide the student to structure their paragraphs and essays in a way that cohesively answers the question by combining context with an understanding of English language techniques and literary commentary to ensure that they better understand and apply their learning in the classroom. A key part of my lessons would be also to memorise and actively recall language and literary techniques to ensure their engagement and understanding, as well as to emphasise how important it is to know to pass any English exam.
Some of my material include past papers that can be found online for free. I believe that accessing this and utilising it to practice is important in strengthening their English skills as someone who was actively taught this way.
