About Jalen
I have been playing and performing trumpet for eight years, focusing mostly on Jazz and Popular Music. I have completed my Major in Music Performance. I will have my Bachelors at the end of Spring 2021. I have tutored friends in both Classical and Jazz Theory. I am currently working on a Research Project centered around Free Jazz and Hard Bop, and have done other research.

My approach to teaching is to guide the student rather than to give the answers. I believe information is retained better when a person figures it out for themselves, as long as they have the proper guidance. I show students how to find the correct information for research in order to create an original argument or perspective, and how to utilize musical examples to understand theory with the goal of applying the knowledge to one’s own music.
