About Amanda
I have been teaching for ten years now and spent the majority of these years in schools abroad. I taught in London, England for six years and in Melbourne, Australia for one. Throughout those seven years, I traveled to 55 countries and definitely had my fair share of adventures! I really enjoy traveling, creative writing, snowboarding, and hiking - to name a few! During the pandemic, I wrote and published a children's book called What Spring Will Bring! Check it out if you're curious! Being a published author has always been one of my life goals and I was pretty proud to have done. I love bringing the outside world, as well as my student's interest into my teaching. I can't wait to get to know you too!

The key to helping any student begin to understand something they find difficult is creating a rapport with them. That rapport can open up opportunities to link the lesson to real-life situations that are relevant in their lives. In Core French class one of my favourite lessons is teaching them the Voyager Unit. For the final lesson, I set up the class as an airplane, have them buy tickets, buy snacks, and find their seats all in French. They love it and it's a great way to take anecdotal notes on their French-speaking skills! I find students are more willing to put the effort in when they can actually see how it may be useful in day to day life.
