About Bael

I am an experienced tutor specializing in ESL, reading comprehension, academic writing, and professional writing, with a background supporting learners from first-year students to graduate researchers and working professionals. My approach begins with understanding each student's goals, current skills, and timeline, then builds a personalized plan around clear structure, strong connections to existing knowledge, and steady, sustainable progress.

My professional background spans non-profit administration, healthcare administration, disaster recovery, and higher education. As a Data and Compliance Manager, I maintained quality data across varied teams and developed the training that improved data records. As a community outreach professional, I wrote presentations, articles, website content, technical materials, and reports for community members, professionals, regulatory bodies, and leadership teams. My writing experience spans grant writing, research writing, technical specifications, creative writing, reports and analysis, cultural writing, community outreach, training documents, and personal communication.

I have tutored ESL learners on structure, clarity, and cross-cultural communication expectations, and coached students in academic and professional writing, public speaking, and graduate test preparation, including GMAT and LSAT. I have also presented nationally on supporting multilingual and culturally diverse writers.

I work with all levels, with a particular focus on high school, college, and adult and professional learners. This includes professionals learning to record data or write reports, students writing research papers or text-based reports, students learning English or working on reading comprehension, parents developing communication and comprehension skills, and individuals looking to improve their skills in their personal lives. Every lesson is grounded in the student's own interests, goals, and material rather than arbitrary texts, with no blame or judgment, just shared purpose and development.

Rather than simply correcting errors, I help students understand why a mistake is occurring and what it reveals about their strengths, so they develop the skills to catch and correct their own work over time. Lessons draw on scaffolding, spaced repetition, and retrieval practice to build durable understanding, not just short-term fixes.

Teaching method and techniques

I begin with a quick evaluation of the student's needs, goals, current skills, timeline, and interests. From there, I focus on scaffolding so each student develops steadily and strongly, building the skills to keep improving independently. My focus is on mastery: the ability to reproduce and expand on what they have learned by drawing connections to their existing knowledge and background, as well as to the specific topic or target format.

A typical lesson plan

Lesson plans vary by purpose. For comprehension work, we start with summary and scope, working out what the student already understands and what they need. We then focus on the concepts, vocabulary, structure, or tools required. I build connections and concept frameworks to strengthen learning through spaced repetition and retrieval practice, and work on specific skills such as thesis versus summary, quotation versus paraphrase, synthesis versus consummation, essay and sentence structure, word choice, and how to test your own comprehension.

What sets me apart as a tutor

I work with each student's goals and current knowledge to build the connections and frameworks they need to keep developing on their own. My aim is to help students understand why an error is occurring and what it reveals about an area of strength, so they can build on their strengths and learn to catch their own needs. I use the student's own interests and situation as the grounding, not arbitrary texts or tools. There is no blame or judgment in my work, just a shared purpose and development.

Who the lessons are for

I work with all students and professionals, with a particular focus on high school, college, and professional learners. This includes developing comprehension and writing skills for adult learners, ESL or not, who are looking to improve, develop, expand, or branch out.
