• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  During my childhood, I was always fascinated by Mathematics because of its ability to describe complex real-world situations through a beautiful arrangement of symbols and logical relationships. What appeared as lengthy statements in English could often be expressed elegantly through mathematical equations. This interest naturally expanded to Physics, as Mathematics is the language through which we understand and describe the physical world. The logical and analytical nature of these subjects eventually helped me secure admission to IIT Delhi.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  During my school years, I always enjoyed explaining Mathematics and Physics problems to my classmates during group study sessions. I found great satisfaction in helping someone understand a concept that they had been struggling with, especially when they could suddenly see the logic behind it. At that stage, however, it was informal and unstructured. When I later started teaching students professionally, that same satisfaction was accompanied by a sense of responsibility, mentorship, and commitment towards their academic growth. Teaching was no longer just about explaining solutions, it was about guiding students through their learning journey and helping them build confidence in their abilities.
  
  
  Seeing my students improve both in their understanding of the subject and in their academic performance remains one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. Their progress and success continue to motivate me to teach and grow as an educator.

• How does your work help society?

  I believe my work helps society by doing much more than preparing students for examinations. My teaching begins with helping students identify the challenges that are holding them back, whether they are academic, psychological, or related to study habits. Once those challenges are understood, I work with them to develop practical strategies to overcome them. Not every student faces the same problems, and not every problem has a standard solution. I therefore encourage open discussions and brainstorming so that we can find approaches that suit each student's individual strengths, limitations, and goals. This gives students a sense of ownership over their learning and helps them realise that their ideas and perspectives matter.
  
  
  Beyond Physics and Mathematics, I aim to develop qualities such as critical thinking, independent problem-solving, collaboration, and self-reflection. These skills remain valuable long after students leave school and become important when they work with others in college, their careers, and society. In that sense, I hope my teaching contributes to creating thoughtful, responsible, and confident individuals.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  If I had to choose one among my role models, it would be Richard Feynman. I greatly admire his ability to explain complex ideas in a simple, clear, and engaging manner without sacrificing depth or accuracy. One of Feynman's beliefs was that true understanding is reflected in the ability to explain an idea clearly and simply. This philosophy has had a significant influence on my teaching methodology. Rather than encouraging students to memorise formulas or procedures, I try to help them develop a genuine understanding of the underlying concepts so that they can apply their knowledge with confidence and flexibility.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Outside teaching, I enjoy reading about Science, Technology, Psychology, and Education. I am particularly interested in understanding how people learn and how new developments in science and technology can improve the teaching and learning process. I also enjoy exploring new educational tools and teaching methodologies to continuously improve my effectiveness as an educator. In my free time, I like listening to science and research podcasts, watching science-fiction content, and spending quality time with my family.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  During my early years of full-time tutoring, I was contacted by an English teacher who was concerned about her son's performance in his Class 12 Physics pre-board examinations. He was a very sweet kid, but perhaps due to academic and peer pressure, he changed his marks from 11 to 41 using a red pen before showing the answer sheet to his mother. Since she herself was a teacher, she was already aware of his actual performance through discussions with the Physics teacher, but she chose not to confront him and instead shared the incident with me.
  
  
  Over the next two to three months, I worked with him on a daily basis, giving him a workable structure and gradually building his confidence in the subject. The day he was finally able to score a similar mark in one of his mock tests, he confessed what he had done. I smiled and told him that both his mother and I were already aware of it. We laughed about it and moved on.
  
  
  What stayed with me was the respect and trust that developed during that period. I still feel a sense of pride when I think about how he went on to perform well in his Class 12 board examinations and secure admission to a good college, where he continued his studies in Science.
