About Carolyn

I am a native English speaker. I have been an ESL teacher for more than 30 years in 4 countries in schools, colleges and universities. I was an IELTS examiner for 7 years. I have taught too many students to count mostly from age 16 to adult. I will teach you what you need to achieve your goals and get the results you need in the shortest possible time. Would you like help to improve your English? I can help you with online and remote support. Just let me know what you would like to work on.

My teaching method is communicative and student-focused. I will assess your current level and work out a program according to your needs. I will teach you what you need to know to achieve your goals. I can teach you academic or general English and prepare you for exams or work.

IELTS STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of IELTS preparation I DO NOT offer free lessons. I do offer a 20-minute phone session for us to find out if we can work together and for me to understand your needs. I will also offer you a FREE assessment of your writing, that I will prepare before your first lesson. Payments for lessons will be made directly to me. Payments you make to Superprof do not come to me.

I was born in the UK so I am a native speaker. I grew up speaking English.

There are so many I don't know where to start and as English is spoken in so many countries there isn't one English culture.

Historically a representative of English language culture is William Shakespeare. While Shakespeare lived centuries ago, his influence on English language, literature, and culture is immense and still resonates today.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or expression in the language that you particularly like?
Discombobulate - to be confused or uncomfortable about something.

He felt discombobulated that morning when everything went wrong.

I like the sound of the word which seems to convey the meaning well Break down the word 'discombobulate' into its individual sounds "dis" + "kuhm" + "bob" + "yuh" + "layt".
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
I don't speak any other language well so speaking English is very important to me.
5. What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
The difficulties students have with learning English depends very much on their first language. For some grammar is a problem, for others speaking and especially pronunciation is more problematic
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
I have traveled a lot and usually try to learn at least a few words in the national language. In most cases though it is easy enough to find someone who speaks some English and if not there is always Google translate to help.
