About Dan

Hi, I'm Dan and I am a specialist Sociology teacher with huge experience and expertise built up over a 20-year teaching career in sixth form. My teaching philosophy aims to deliver not only high grades and major, measurable improvement in student performance but also an enjoyable experience. Crucially, my students have an excellent record of exam success both as sixth form students and individual tutees. In terms of qualifications, I hold a doctorate, an MA at distinction level, a PGCE teaching qualification and a BA (Hons). My teaching style emphasises the need to be accessible, friendly and supportive and to build a relationship with students which prioritises the learning goals they themselves identify. I also favour an interactive approach which recognises that learning needs to generate enthusiasm and engagement as well as academic progress. Most importantly, I teach to ensure students understand and can meet examination assessment objectives and thereby achieve high grades. As my profile indicates, I am a hugely experienced and enthusiastic Sociology teacher who always goes the extra mile for my students. Every lesson aims to tackle the learning needs that students themselves identify and to build confidence and skills in equal measure. Each lesson comes complete with an accompanying body of topic notes, essay-writing tips, and model answers to help students boost their grades. Furthermore, I always try to ensure my sessions are fully interactive, relaxed and enjoyable experiences, as well as highly productive. I look forward to tutoring you!

Hi Kasia, Zuzanna and I have just finished another fun lesson exploring Marxist theories of religion. Identical to our first session, Zuzanna was so lively and positive, and we ran through all the various concepts, and sociological arguments with great gusto. Hopefully, the complexities of sociological theory are becoming increasingly clear to Zuzanna as we move through the material. I very much look forward to our earlier session next week. I supplied her with four mark schemes to help her mock preparation further, as well as some topic notes which linked to the questions.
