About Brendan
Hello, my name is Brendan. I was born in Toronto, and now I live in Montréal. From a young age, I looked up to bookish people who loved to read, were privy to pop culture, and who knew how to hold their listeners' attention. Naturally, I wanted to be all of these things. I wanted to be able to speak with ease at the dinner table or classroom about books, film, and global affairs. When someone referenced a classic book, I wanted to say, "Oh yeah, I've read that one."
By age 29, I have made significant progress toward emulating my role models. And though I have more progress to make, I have a new goal in mind. Now I want to pass on to others the many lessons I learned from books and strong orators. This is why I've joined Superprof.

I'm a TEFL certified teacher of English. I have 4+ years of teaching experience, with learners from ages seven to twenty-eight.
Having worked as a Writing Feedback Specialist and a Tutor of high school English at Preply and Varsity Tutors, I have experience with helping students tune their critical voices to the right pitch. I have also helped adults improve their confidence in everyday spoken English. I've found that fostering a non-judgmental environment makes communication come naturally.
From past students I've tutored, I've been told that I take a lot of responsibility for their learning - and that I can be a bit intense - but that these qualities come from a good place. Students of mine feel that I make it my job to advance their learning.
My lessons are primarily for teenagers, young adults, and adults. High school/CEGEP, university, and adult continuing education.
