About RATHNAM RAJU
As a trained Hindustani Classical Vocal teacher with years of dedicated practice, I offer a calm, encouraging, and structured learning environment where students can grow in skill and confidence. My teaching is rooted in tradition, yet flexible enough to suit modern learners across all levels. I focus on developing voice culture, sur and taal accuracy, and a genuine emotional connection to the music. Lessons are personalized to each student's pace, combining traditional compositions (bandish), improvisation, and rhythmic understanding (laya). I bring professionalism, patience, and a genuine passion for nurturing talent. With my support, you won’t just learn to sing—you’ll learn to listen, understand, and feel every note. My goal is to build disciplined, expressive musicians who respect the art form and enjoy every step of their musical journey.

I follow a traditional yet student-centered approach in teaching Hindustani Classical Vocal. My method emphasizes both technical mastery and emotional connection to the music. I begin with voice culture—breathing techniques, posture, and vocal exercises—to develop a strong and tuneful voice.
Lessons are built around raga-based instruction, which includes learning the swaras (notes), alankars (patterns), and eventually moving on to bandishes (compositions), taans (fast passages), and improvisation. I give special attention to sur (pitch accuracy), laya (rhythm), and bhava (expression).
To deepen understanding, I incorporate listening sessions of recordings by legendary artists. I also use call-and-response techniques to train the ear and voice simultaneously. My method is progressive: starting from basic sargam and moving toward complex ragas and improvisational forms like alap, bol-alap, and sargam-taan.
