About Kaitlin
Hello! I’m Kaitlin Berry, a passionate and highly trained Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and reading specialist with eight years of experience helping students unlock the power of literacy. I specialize in supporting learners with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and other language-based learning differences, as well as students who are developing English as an additional language. My approach is grounded in the science of reading and the Orton-Gillingham methodology, which means every lesson is structured, multisensory, and tailored to each student’s unique learning profile. I use data-driven instruction, engaging materials, and positive reinforcement to ensure measurable progress—and, most importantly, to build confidence and joy in reading. I hold Texas teaching certifications in Core Subjects EC–6, Special Education EC–12, and ESL EC–12, and Educational Diagnostician, which allow me to meet diverse learner needs across grade levels. I am also trained in the Wilson Reading System and other evidence-based literacy interventions. What truly sets me apart is my blend of professionalism, empathy, and innovation. I take the time to understand each student as an individual, designing lessons that are both effective and encouraging. My Approach as a Tutor
As a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and experienced reading specialist, my tutoring approach is rooted in structured literacy—explicit, systematic, and multisensory instruction based on the science of reading. I believe that every learner deserves tailored support that honors their individual learning profile, interests, and pace. My goal is to build not only strong reading and writing skills but also confidence and curiosity in every student I teach.
Teaching Methods and Techniques
I use evidence-based, multisensory methods grounded in Orton-Gillingham principles and the Wilson Reading System. Lessons are interactive and scaffolded, integrating visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile techniques. I incorporate data-driven instruction, continuously assessing progress to refine and personalize each session. Technology tools and AI-based literacy platforms are also woven in to make learning engaging and adaptive.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson begins with a review and warm-up of previously taught concepts, followed by explicit instruction in phonology, spelling, vocabulary, or comprehension. Students then engage in guided practice, applying skills through reading and writing tasks. Sessions conclude with a reflection and progress check, empowering students to self-monitor their learning.
