About Emma
I am a qualified secondary Mathematics teacher with a Master of Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Geography. I have extensive experience teaching Mathematics across a wide range of abilities and have worked in highly academic independent schools, as well as with students with additional learning needs.
What I enjoy most about teaching is getting to know my students and finding the approach that works for them. I particularly value seeing the moment when a student who has struggled with Mathematics begins to realise that they are capable of understanding it. I encourage my students to have a go, even when they are unsure, and to gradually become more independent and confident in tackling problems for themselves. I want them to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and working things out without feeling judged. I also believe that lessons are much more enjoyable when students can relax, have a laugh and not take every mistake too seriously.

My approach to tutoring is centred around making Mathematics clear, manageable and less intimidating. I particularly enjoy working with students who have lost confidence or believe they are simply “not good at maths”. I take the time to build a strong relationship with each student and tailor lessons to their individual needs, breaking concepts down into straightforward, step-by-step processes and working through plenty of examples together.
Lessons are typically one hour and can focus on whatever will be most useful for the student. This might be supporting their current classwork, revisiting a topic they have struggled with, or getting a head start on an upcoming topic. I can also provide targeted support with using the CAS calculator effectively.
I primarily tutor Years 7–10 Mathematics and VCE General Mathematics, and I aim to make every lesson practical, supportive and focused on helping students develop both their understanding and confidence.
