I studied Linguistics and French at Stony Brook University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.92 GPA,. I have since lived in and traveled throughout five different Francophone (French-speaking)--Canada, Morocco, Belgium, Luxembourg, and of course, France.
In 2019, I was the recipient of a US State Department Critical Language Scholarship.
My favorite writers in French include Camus and Sartre, and I am a fan of Rameau's operas.

First off, we will start with the phonetics of French. I want to make sure that your learning French begins the same way it does for native speakers--by MASTERING THE SOUNDS! Concurrent to this will we learn tons of vocabulary!
Next, we will focus on memorization of phrases and conversational cues. We will begin to talk about grammatical concepts which exist in French, and comprehend how they differ from how we might expect to frame language as English-speakers.
We will explore common life themes, to get you speaking about the things you're most likely to. Finding comfortable speaking ground in a more limited variety of topics will show you that it is simply a matter of collecting and review.
You will soon see for yourself that you can ABSOLUTELY converse with comfort, when you give yourself patience, practice and kindness! We will continue to achieve depth in a variety of common life genres of conversation, one at a time.
Finally, we will move to longer, more advanced texts and grammar, to expose you to French in a variety circumstances and give you the opportunity to begin to mélanger (meh-law-ZHEY - 'to blend') vocabulary from one theme of conversation into another. This heralds a creative speaker!
Along the way, we will use interactive media like crosswords, films, music, and cooking! I am so excited to meet you!

Perfect! I had French tutoring with Michael and it was an excellent experience. He is very patient, clear in his explanations, and makes learning French enjoyable and easy to follow. Michael has a true gift for teaching. His enthusiasm and patience with language beginners is unmatched. While studying Persian, I felt that he fostered an environment where I wanted to do better every day, and gave me all the tools to do so, but without any sense of judgement when life has gotten hectic on my end and I didn't meet all of my goals. He is a skilled teacher! I am so happy I found Michael, and am excited to begin a new language (Hebrew) with him soon!
Michael is an excellent teacher with an incredible intuition for languages. Over the course of a summer spent at an institute for Jewish learning, Michael would regularly volunteer to assist other students in Hebrew vocabulary and grammar, doing so with warmth, patience, and humor. If you are looking for a Hebrew teacher, I highly recommend Michael!
