• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I have always been interested in teaching, and I developed a passion for teaching healthcare subjects during my time at university. This experience inspired me to give back and support others through education.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I have always loved science and first aid since I was young. I alwyas wanted to be in the medical field one way or another. I initially went into nursing and later learned about the graduate entry medicine route in which allowed me to become a doctor.
  
  Teaching healthcare and medical subjects has been a fulfilling experience for me. I particularly enjoy discussing topics such as anatomy, physiology, and clinical skills with my students. These subjects form the foundation of medical knowledge and are crucial for any healthcare professional. Additionally, I find great satisfaction in teaching first aid techniques and emergency responses, as they can truly make a difference in saving lives.
  
  On the other hand, one area that I find challenging to discuss with students is medical ethics and decision-making. While these topics are undeniably important, they often involve complex ethical dilemmas and can be emotionally taxing for both the students and myself. Nonetheless, I recognize the significance of addressing these subjects to help students navigate the complexities of the healthcare profession.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Certainly! I have been fortunate to have several inspiring teachers throughout my academic journey. One teacher who particularly stands out is my high school biology teacher. She had a tremendous passion for the subject and a gift for making complex topics accessible and engaging for her students. Her dedication to teaching and her ability to foster a love for science in her students greatly influenced my own approach to education.
  
  In addition to my high school biology teacher, I have also been inspired by the medical professionals I have worked with during my training. Their commitment to patient care and their willingness to share their knowledge and expertise have motivated me to pursue a career in healthcare and to pass on my own knowledge to future healthcare professionals.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  To be a good tutor, I believe one must possess a combination of knowledge, patience, and empathy. Having a deep understanding of the subject matter is essential for effectively conveying information to students and addressing their questions and concerns. Patience is also crucial in guiding students through the learning process, as different individuals may grasp concepts at varying paces. Furthermore, empathy plays a significant role in creating a supportive and understanding learning environment, where students feel comfortable expressing their challenges and where their unique learning styles are acknowledged and accommodated. These qualities not only contribute to academic success but also foster a positive and enriching learning experience for both the tutor and the student.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  Sure! One valuable anecdote from my school days that deeply impacted me was during a first aid workshop. I was in high school, and we had a special session on basic life support and CPR. During the training, our instructor shared a story about a real-life situation where someone had collapsed in a public place, and a bystander had performed CPR until medical help arrived, ultimately saving the person's life.
  
  This anecdote left a profound impression on me because it highlighted the importance of first aid knowledge and immediate action in critical situations. It reinforced my belief in the significance of teaching first aid techniques and emergency responses, as well as the impact they can have in real-life scenarios.
  
  Answering the question, my interest in healthcare and teaching was further solidified by this experience, as it reminded me of the life-saving potential of the skills and knowledge I aimed to impart to others. It motivated me to pursue a career in the medical field and has since become a vital part of my teaching philosophy.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  As someone with dyslexia, navigating the academic world and pursuing a career in the medical field has presented unique challenges for me. However, my personal experience with learning difficulties has ultimately shaped my teaching approach and made me a better educator.
  
  Understanding the struggles of learning with dyslexia has allowed me to develop alternative teaching methods that cater to different learning styles. I have found that incorporating visual aids, interactive activities, and practical demonstrations into my lessons not only helps students with dyslexia but also benefits all of my students. By embracing innovative teaching strategies, I have been able to create an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.
  
  My own journey with dyslexia has also instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and patience. I recognize the importance of providing individualized support and allowing students the time they need to grasp complex concepts. This understanding has made me a more compassionate and effective tutor, enabling me to guide my students through their academic challenges with understanding and encouragement.
  
  Moreover, my experience with dyslexia has heightened my awareness of the diverse needs of students with learning differences. I am committed to promoting a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere in my teaching, where all students feel empowered and valued.
  
  In conclusion, my personal experience with dyslexia has not only equipped me with the skills to overcome learning challenges but has also shaped me into a more empathetic, adaptable, and resourceful educator. This firsthand understanding has allowed me to tailor my teaching methods to suit the individual needs of my students, making me a more effective and relatable teacher.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My passion lies in teaching and helping students reach their full potential. I find great joy and fulfillment in witnessing the growth and success of my students. I am dedicated to creating a positive and engaging learning environment where students feel motivated and supported. I also love learning new things and passing that knowledge onto others, so I constantly seek opportunities to expand my own knowledge and explore different teaching strategies.
