About Olivia
My own guitar journey started with the excitement of trying to play along with songs I loved, long before I knew any proper technique. That curiosity gradually became a passion, and eventually I completed a B.Mus in Contemporary Guitar Performance, where I studied improvisation, ensemble playing, harmony, and modern styles in depth. Over the last 9 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching students ranging from complete beginners to gigging musicians, and I’ve learned that the most important part of teaching is helping each person feel capable, understood, and supported at their own pace. I teach in a relaxed but structured way, always balancing technique, creativity, and fun. I listen carefully to what students want—whether that’s strumming and singing, building solos, preparing for exams, or just playing confidently for themselves—and then shape lessons around those goals. I break concepts into small, manageable steps and never mind repeating an explanation in a different way if it helps something “click.” I know how discouraging it can be to feel stuck, so I try to be an encouraging guide who helps students see their progress, even in small details like cleaner chord changes or steadier rhythm. Outside of teaching, I keep my own playing fresh through gigging, writing music, learning new styles, and studying players I admire. Staying active as a musician helps me bring real-world tips into the lesson room—things like how to manage nerves, practice efficiently, or adapt when something goes wrong mid-song. Watching students grow from tentative strummers into confident, expressive guitarists is one of the most rewarding experiences I know, and it’s the reason I put so much care and attention into every lesson I teach.

Guitar feels much more approachable when students are guided step by step from simple shapes and rhythms into full, expressive music-making. In my lessons, we explore core technique, chord vocabulary, strumming and fingerstyle patterns, scales, rhythm awareness, and a carefully chosen mix of songs that match each student’s taste and level. I like to show how theory is actually useful—how understanding keys, intervals, and harmony helps you move smoothly along the neck and unlock more musical freedom. Rather than copying shapes without meaning, we connect everything back to sound and feel so students become thoughtful, expressive players.
Each learner receives a personalized structure. Absolute beginners start with how to hold the guitar comfortably, easy chords, one- and two-string riffs, and building simple strumming patterns in time with music. Intermediate students go deeper into barre chords, movable shapes, scale application, riff playing, solo building, and stylistic skills in rock, pop, blues, or acoustic styles. More advanced learners refine phrasing, dynamics, improvisation, ear training, and performance preparation, including polishing full pieces from start to finish. Throughout all levels, I use backing tracks, slow breakdowns, and clear practice plans so progress feels realistic, steady, and encouraging rather than rushed or overwhelming.
Learning guitar develops far more than musical ability—it quietly builds focus, patience, and self-belief. As students notice they can play songs they once thought were “too hard,” they also begin trusting their ability to learn in other areas of life. Regular practice becomes a gentle form of discipline and stress relief, and creative expression through chords and melodies becomes a healthy emotional outlet. My aim is for every lesson to feel like a mix of structured learning and genuine enjoyment, so students look forward to picking up the guitar, not just because they “should,” but because they truly want to explore what they can do next.
