About Emily
My Tutoring Philosophy: Individualistic and Supportive
Writing is one of the most fundamental skills students need in all academic disciplines. As a Writing and Rhetoric major, I am an expert where writing is concerned and I have a lot of experience with various kinds of papers and writers, as well as giving feedback to students.
I am also a Philosophy major, which means that I am good with critical thinking and finding things in papers that are vague and helping make them more focused. I have taken the Writing Center Studies course at Oakland University and have delved into tutoring theory and observed writing tutors at OU’s Writing Center in the Kresge Library. Thanks to that course, I am also able to work individually with students from all fields of study.

I am able to assist you anywhere during your writing process – from coming up with a topic and developing ideas and themes, to creating an organizational structure, to drafting and re-drafting your work, to proofreading and final drafting.
Sessions begin with going over the requirements for the writing assignment you have. If you have nothing written yet, we can start with brainstorming for a topic and then beginning to outline. We will then go over what you want to work on - parts of the assignment where you think extra attention is needed. If you already have something written, we’ll go over it with a focus on your concerns.
