About Pauline
I enjoy teaching and giving pupils the confidence to try. I love the 'aha' moment when something sinks in and believe lessons should incorporate smiles. I enjoy computer strategy games, reading, cooking and gardening. I moved to Cornwall about 10 years ago thinking it would take 5 years to get the house into shape, I am still working on it. I have turned the back garden into a woodland glade with ponds and a brook over the last few years, it will keep me busy for many years to come. I am retiring in 2027 so I am hoping to be finished with all the structural work on the house and garden by then, leaving just the final touches.

I taught mainstream secondary mathematics for a while then moved into teaching secondary aged children in their homes who were not at school for various reasons. Because of this I have taught all kinds of children with all kinds of problems. This means it is hard to surprise me, I am tolerant, empathic and have a great deal of patience. Teaching children in their homes for 15 years meant I had to teach English, maths and science in addition to anything else that was asked for – not as easy as it sounds I believe that each person understands the world in a different way so need to be taught in a way that is right for them, to do this you teach the person not the subject. I have learnt several ways of teaching most topics so can normally find one that fits each student. I truly believe that if you want to move a mountain, you move one pebble at a time.
