About Rachel
Hi! I'm Rachel, a San Diego-based tutor with real experience working one-on-one with students of all ages, from elementary schoolers to college students navigating tough coursework. I studied at San Diego State University (with a degree in Finance) and spent a semester abroad in Barcelona, so I know firsthand what it takes to write clearly and persuasively across very different academic contexts. My background in tutoring comes from SDSU's LEAD 307 Service Learning program, where I worked closely with a 5th-grade student in the foster care system. I learned quickly that the most effective tutoring isn't one-size-fits-all, it's about understanding how each student thinks and building their confidence alongside their skills. Whether you're working on a college application essay, struggling with writing structure, or just need someone to help make your ideas come through clearly on the page, I've got you.

Every session starts with understanding where you're at, what clicked last time, what didn't, and what you're working toward. From there we dig into the specific task, whether that's brainstorming, structure, grammar, or polishing a final draft. I don't just fix your work for you. I ask questions, explain the "why" behind changes, and make sure you leave each session more capable than when you arrived. My goal is for you to not need me eventually, because you've actually learned the skills.
