About Jose
José Miranda is a Cuban saxophonist and pianist currently residing in New York City.
José received a scholarship for excellence and is currently studying Saxophone Performance at the Manhattan School of Music. He has performed at world-renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Rialto Center of Arts, and the National Theater of Cuba, collaborating with prominent figures and organizations in both classical music and jazz, including: Dr. Timothy MacAllister, Eric Whitacre, Mr. Taimur Sullivan, Dr. Jan Baker, Mr. Brandyn Taylor, Dr. Stephen Page, and international professors such as Dr. Luis Jiménez of the Paris Conservatory, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Preservation Hall, the National Band of Cuba, among others. José Miranda has won multiple awards for his musical talent in the United States and internationally such as the American Protege at Carnegie Hall, Grand Virtuoso Competition in the United Kingdom and most recently, Manhattan School of Music 2026 Concerto Competition. Throughout his career Jose has studied with Paul Cohen, Brandyn Taylor, Javier Zalba, and Ahmed López.

My dynamic teaching style encourages students to grow both musically and creatively. I have over seven years of experience teaching private lessons as well as working in high schools and music academies, with students of all ages and levels.
My areas of expertise include instrumental pedagogy, solo and ensemble performance, ensemble conducting, and helping beginning students build a strong musical and technical foundation. I also focus on developing good practice habits, musical expression, tone production, technique, and confidence in performance.
In my lessons, I adapt my teaching approach to each student’s goals, whether they are preparing for auditions, improving their technical skills, learning repertoire, or simply exploring music for enjoyment. I believe that learning music should be both challenging and inspiring, and I strive to create a supportive and motivating environment where students can grow at their own pace.
I also encourage creativity, musical curiosity, and a deeper understanding of music through theory, listening, and performance opportunities.
