About Wouter
In 2020 I graduated in film directing at the LUCA School of Arts (under teachers like Bas Devos & Gust van den Berghe). I wrote and directed, among others, Quand On A Le Choix (2019) which was screened at the Leuven International Short Film Festival and graduated with Europa 411 (2020) which was screened at CUT: TO GENT film festival.
My films are characterized by a hybrid feel, balancing the fictional with the real. Even though I write a script for every film, it’s my recurring collaboration with non-actors that really brings my films to life.
Currently I'm writing two short documentary film plans.

When I think back to my most valuable learning moments, they were especially the open and level-ground conversations I had with film directors and writers. Sometimes painful, but honest feedback and ideas were exchanged, with empathy for the filmmaker, out of a genuine interest in progressing the film project. It was in those conversations that I was able to develop myself most as a writer and director.
However, of course everyone is at different levels, so it is essential that the feedback adapts itself appropriately. The crucial part of my lessons are to help the person in question at the level where they are at that particular moment.
So I give advice to;
- novice filmmakers who want to understand the basics of the film language; to learn to direct actors, to write scripts, camera, sound, editing
- semi-professional filmmakers who, for example, want coaching for the application of a film school
- professional filmmakers who are looking for feedback on a film plan, screenplay or rough cut of their film
The lessons I'd give don't have a "one size fits all" approach, but are specifically designed towards your needs.
Central in my lessons is the artistic quality of film, and finding your creative, innovative and original film style and vision that best expresses the story you want to tell.
