About Alice
I am a graduate of the University of Cambridge (2018 - 2021) holding Qualified Teacher Status in English Studies. I have worked as an English Teacher in a specialist school for pupils with autism and specific learning difficulties for the past four years and I am passionate about ensuring that every pupil is taught under conditions that allow them to achieve their full learning potential. I am SEND-experienced and deliver a professional and compassionate tutoring service which accounts for each pupil's needs above all else. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading books, going to the theatre, and taking acting and comedy classes!

I have four years' experience teaching in SEND schools. Hence, when I tutor, I try to meet my client's needs in all areas including lesson length and focus areas. I tutor for a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of one hour to limit cognitive overload. When teaching younger students (up to age 11), we focus on the National Curriculum and key areas of literacy such as reading and spelling. I am experienced in delivering Phonics interventions using Ruth Miskin's Read-Write-Inc programme as well as more challenging tasks which improve key skills such as inference, retrieval, and prediction. For students under 9 years of age, sessions are limited to a maximum of 40 minutes. For older students, we focus on covering any gaps in knowledge which might be limiting progress before moving onto more challenging material. I am experienced in delivering Ruth Miskin's Fresh Starts programme for older readers who have gaps in their phonics knowledge. I can also deliver sessions which stretch more comfortable English Students by challenging them to read and write engaging texts in a variety of genres. We learn best through explicit teaching of content, modelling success, and specific feedback. For those approaching qualifications, I am experienced in teaching up to GCSE. I have experience in teaching and tutoring Entry Levels 1 to 3, Functional Skills Levels 1 and 2, and GCSE English Language and English Literature on a range of exam boards including Pearson, AQA, and Cambridge iGCSE.
