About Serena
For two years, I taught and tutored 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. I tutored full classes during the school year and created lesson plans and taught during the summer. Most of my students spoke English as a second language and I got to watch them as they gained confidence in their reading and writing abilities. I have a great passion for Literature and I love helping students of all ages conquer their fear of reading and writing and get to see how gaining those types of skills allows for better expressing themselves in everyday life.

For my students of all ages, I am determined to not only improve spelling/grammar, academic writing, and creative thinking but also to build confidence. Reading comprehension and any form of writing are vulnerable tasks and can create a lot of insecurity. I want my students to finish lessons with me feeling like they can better trust their intuitions and abilities. I do not just point out, but guide my students to see weak spots in their writing so that in the future, they can begin to rely on themselves for editing. I believe this kind of encouragement applies to all grades.
