  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in science began in secondary school when I realized how Chemistry and Biology could explain everyday life — from the food we eat to the way our bodies function. That curiosity grew into a lifelong passion. After earning my degree in Biochemistry, I started helping classmates and younger students understand tough topics. Their progress inspired me to start private tutoring, and for over 20 years now, I’ve been teaching Chemistry, Physics, and Biology to KS3, GCSE, and A-level students with the goal of making science simple, engaging, and practical.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Chemistry, Physics, and Biology — subjects that form the foundation of how our world works.
In Chemistry, I enjoy teaching Organic Chemistry and Chemical Bonding because they show the beauty of structure and reactions in real life. In Physics, I love discussing Motion, Electricity, and Energy transformations, while in Biology, topics like Genetics and Human Physiology always spark deep curiosity.
If there’s anything I like a little less, it’s when students approach science as pure memorization — I always encourage them to think conceptually and connect ideas rather than cram formulas.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes. My secondary school Chemistry teacher inspired me deeply. He had a way of making difficult topics sound simple and exciting. Later in life, I also drew inspiration from educational leaders like Dr. Sam Adeyemi, who taught me that true leadership — even in teaching — is about service and transformation. These influences shaped my approach to education: I don’t just teach facts; I aim to help students discover confidence, purpose, and curiosity.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor must be patient, passionate, adaptable, and genuinely interested in the student’s progress. The ability to explain complex ideas in simple ways is key, but empathy matters just as much. I believe every student can succeed if taught in a way that connects with their learning style. A tutor should also be organized, consistent, and encouraging — turning every challenge into a teachable moment.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I remember a student who once told me, “Sir, I hate Chemistry — it’s too hard.” I smiled and said, “Give me three weeks.” We started with atoms and bonding, using analogies from relationships and everyday life. By the end of that term, she scored the highest in her class. She later told me, “You made me see Chemistry differently.” That moment reminded me that the best teachers don’t just teach content — they change how students see themselves.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

In the early years, the biggest challenge was making abstract scientific concepts feel relevant and practical for students. Many found topics like moles, motion equations, or enzyme activity intimidating. Over time, I learned to simplify and visualize ideas using stories, experiments, and analogies. Another ongoing challenge is keeping students engaged in an age of distractions, but I use interactive methods and relatable examples to keep learning fun.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is my calling — but more specifically, I’m passionate about helping young people see how science connects to real life. Beyond the classroom, I also run educational initiatives like Nigeria’s Smartest Kids and Scrabble in Schools to promote logic, reading, and creativity. I believe learning should build not just academic skill but also character and innovation.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

What makes me a Superprof is my combination of experience, creativity, and genuine care for my students’ success. I don’t just teach — I mentor. I bring 20+ years of classroom and private tutoring experience, two authored science books, and a passion for turning difficult topics into exciting discoveries. My students often say, “You make science come alive!” — and that’s the best compliment any tutor could ask for
