About Ali

I'm a musician/music educator. I've been playing Guitar and Singing for 12 years. I run an online music called The Octave Workshop. I have taught in prestigious music schools and have been giving private lessons for 6 years. My core ability is to understand my student's needs and I'm very patient, especially when it comes to children. I've taught over 10,000+ hours of online sessions to students from across the globe like the USA, UK, Canada, South Africa, Oman, Indonesia, Australia, Denmark, Norway, New Zealand, Malaysia, Dubai, and India. My favorite genres are blues, pop, rock, and R&B music. I've completed my certification of Grade 8 in Rock and Pop guitar and Grade 8 in Vocals from Trinity Music School of London. I have played gigs and performed live shows at clubs and stadiums. I sing and play multiple instruments other than the guitar like Piano, Ukulele, Bass guitar, Cajon, and Kalimba and I also know the use of a DAW for music production.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I first developed a passion for music when I was a teenager. Hearing the emotional expression in blues and the intricate melodies in classic rock made me pick up the guitar. It felt like the perfect way to express myself and connect with the music I loved.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Definitely! I can listen to John Mayer's Continuum or Tim Henson's intricate compositions on loop. Their ability to blend emotion with technical mastery is endlessly inspiring.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I'd teach a course on "The Art of Expression Through Guitar." It wouldn't just cover techniques but focus on how to make the guitar an extension of one's emotions, blending phrasing, dynamics, and improvisation. It would be challenging because it demands both technical skill and deep emotional connection.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The violin seems incredibly complicated. Its fretless nature and the need for perfect intonation, combined with the physicality of bowing, make it a huge challenge.
  • What are your keys to success?

Consistency, curiosity, and connection. Practicing regularly, always seeking to learn something new, and building genuine relationships with other musicians have been my guiding principles.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favorite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

John Mayer: For his melodic approach and songwriting wisdom.

Stevie Ray Vaughan: To experience his raw passion and stories about the blues.

Plini: To dive deep into his creative process for blending modern tones with progressive elements.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Once, during a jam session, I completely blanked on what to play. Instead of panicking, I focused on playing just a couple of notes on 1st string and with as much emotion as possible. To my surprise, it resonated with everyone in the room. It taught me that music is about emotion, not just technical complexity.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I focus on personalized guidance, helping students find their unique voice on the guitar. I mix theory with fun, relatable examples from their favorite artists, and emphasize creativity alongside technique.
