My math tutoring is built upon understanding how student think and learn, instead of what answer they might get. I begin by identifying the root of the student's confusion, since most mistakes and later struggles come from a weak understanding of the concepts early on. From that point, I break down problems and help the student connect the dots. This can be done through guided questions.
A typical lesson starts with a warm-up or review from the previous class. After that I introduce or review core concepts, while giving them examples. After that, they will attempt to do a similar question independently while I observe their process and intervene is necessary. The session then ends with a recap of key ideas and common mistakes.
What sets my tutoring apart is how I emphasize on thinking rather than methodology. Instead of showing students how to solve a problem, I teach them how to approach it along with similar problems. I also prioritize building the student's confidence along with progression. My lessons are designed for middle school to high school students up to grade 10.
