About Abul Barkat

I am an M.A in English and for the last 15 years, I have been teaching English to students pursuing C.B.S.E and I.C.S.E courses. I believe; Teaching-Learning is a joint Venture of Teacher-Students in which both have equal role to play. Learning being a never-ending process, I still learn from my students what exactly they need and accordingly I guide them. I understand, every student has the potentiality to learn and they can do well, if guided properly.

I teach English to students of Class VII, IX and X, pursuing C.B.S. E and I.C.S.E course. I adopt different methods for teaching students of different course. For teaching Literature to C.B.S.E students, I start with explaining the title and its relevance with the text. Then, I give a short profile of the writer or poet. While teaching Fiction, I read the text, sentence by sentence, explain and meaning of the difficult words; their synonyms and antonyms where available. Any phrase or sentence, difficult to be understood is explained. Answers to text book questions (short, long and value-based) are prepared in advance and kept in doc file. Students are made to take down the answers. For teaching novels, Three men in a boat and My story of Life, the summary of a chapter is explained and the students are made to take down answers of selective questions from the doc file. While teaching poems, the poetic devices used are pointed out and explained. On the week end, an hour of test (one hour) is taken on literature and grammar taught during the week. This continuous evaluation is communicated to the parents. This creates a feeling of competitiveness and "always-prepared-for-the exam".
For teaching I.C.S.E students, on Drama, Merchant of Venice, every dialogue is explained and underlying meaning of words, phrases and stanza are explained. Questions of the prescribed Word Book are prepared in advance, with limited word counts and kept in the oc file. Students are made to take down the answers and also asked to write their answers on selective questions, in the weekly test. Specific questions of students are explained.

For I.C.S.E students, for teaching grammar, theories are explained with regard to Transformation, analysis and Synthesis of sentences. Then, comprehensive exercises are practiced in the lasses, besides giving questions for home work.

For language Section, Long Essays (350 to 400 words) on selected topics are given to students which they are required to write in the weekly test. Comprehension passages are given for home work and test is taken once a month. Precis, as given in their work book are given to them to work out and corrected, every week. Other topics covered for Grammar are Tense, Sequence of Tense, Direct-Indirect Speech, Active-passive Voice, Phrase & Clauses, Simple and Compound Sentences, Adverbs, Adjectives, Preposition, Conjunction and Conditional Sentences
