About Andy
Hi, I'm a Game Dev professional with over 30 titles in screen media & game development experience. I'm passionate about narrative design & interactive experiences. I believe in a constructive style of teaching, meaning students are learning by doing with a hands-on approach.
I have experience training 3D art/animation, outdoor education & martial arts. I'm currently completing a Certificate IV in training and assessment, which graduates in Oct 2026.
I also have a contract animations business 10tickles.com.au, which has accepted work experience students to help mentor their career path. I've also successfully launched 3x Augmented reality game titles based on true stories from Melbourne historical archives, exhibiting at PAX and winning awards for digital storytelling, innovation, history and education.

Bring a games and TV producer so many people have asked me over the years how to break into this industry and level up their skills—Andy is the one to learn from. I’ve been so proud to work with him, and we’ve even won an award or two together for games he’s animated.
His story is incredible: from pro skater to animator, proving you can start at any age. He truly understands the craft and the character work that makes animation come alive. Having worked with all the big names in gaming, Andy gives an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at the industry.
This is a rare opportunity to learn from a true master. Seriously… walk, don’t run!
I’ve know Andy for 7 years.
As a school dad and teacher at our martial arts Dojo.
He’s spent many an hr having deep conversations with my son regarding everything from programming to animation and modeling.
His teaching manner is collaborative, and fluid.
He has taught both me and my son in martial arts and I would join a class run by him whether it be Animation or Martial arts any day of the week.I have known Andy for many decades. He is exceptionally talented in his craft and inspires others with his energy and enthusiasm. I am a classroom teacher and have had the privilege of taking around 80 students to Scienceworks to test his interactive educational game about the history of its Pumping Station. Students loved the experience of exploring the pumping station site with iPads to discover places and people that conveyed information in a fun and interesting way through visual presentations and interactions on an iPad. Andy and his team made the experience even more personal as they roamed around and encouraged the students to engage with the program. Andy strives to make students feel inspired and motivated by enthusiastically sharing his knowledge and skills. Having the experience of being a father of three as well as volunteering his time to teach young people in community groups, he understands how to deliver information in a clear and meaningful way to all different kinds of learners. I highly recommend Andy as a super tutor.
It's my absolute pleasure to provide this teaching reference for Andy, whom I have known for years through the Melbourne art, creative and skateboard scene. As an artist, collector and Lecturer in Fine Art (Photography) at RMIT University, Andy's skills, communication and creative knowledge are second too none!
Andy undertook four separate restorations of rare (and expensive!) skateboards for me, each one requiring advanced technical skills, material sensitivity and a uniquely strong aesthetic judgement. These were complex artistic projects, involving assessment of wear, structural considerations, surface treatment and expert finishing. My expectations were high and Andy always surpassed them with an eye on preserving the history, rarity and character of each piece. The quality of his workmanship is consistently excellent and something I'd sincerely trust to no one else...
What impresses me most is Andy’s ability, to combine his practical skills with a refined visual sensibility. Through this he was able to approached each restoration thoughtfully, demonstrating a clear understanding of how form, function and visual narrative intersect.
This is an approach, I sincerely appreciate, as it both aligns perfectly with the highest principles I've taught (& been taught!) in every Visual Arts course from RMIT to VCA. His attention to detail, patience and respect for material, is consistently reflect in the mature and professional nature of his whole practice, be that graphic arts, game design or teaching.
Andy is also highly reliable and communicative. He works independently, met all of our agreed timelines and was transparent about his processes, costs, challenges and solutions. This level of self responsibility is something, that as a professional Artist and educator myself, I highly value in both my students and my collaborators alike.
In closing, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Andy for any opportunities in any area of creative practice, be that restoration, visual media or any related field. He that rare combination of technical capability, artistic judgement and a strong work ethic, that has seen him win both awards and justified acclaim Australia over!
To say that Andy is talented, would be a gross understatement.... he's a highly skilled and critical asset to any professional, creative or academic environment you could ever conceive to place him in!Andy Yong is such a great teacher. Coming from a teaching background myself (13 years in schools, 9 as a teacher trainer at university), he has the all the best qualities we expect. He shapes the learning for the learner, build relationships and meets the learner where they are at. He is personable and highly knowledgeable, but is able to explain complex concepts and processes in a way most appropriate to the person in front of him. I wanted to start teaching game design, and I reached out. He walked me through a conceptual framework that I now use when I teach it to children and adults across the state. His warmth and knowledge are a blessing to any future student!
