About Will
I've been playing piano since I was 10 years old. You'd expect me to be a master by now (I'm 26). Wrong!
At first I was doing well, playing basic pieces and getting by. But as the months and years ticked by and after spending hours banging away at the keys, I realised I wasn't making much progress. I felt frustrated listening to my favourite Cuban scores on my laptop, and not having the ability to play them myself. I just wanted to express myself by playing music I loved. I wasn't sure what to do; I gave up at age 22.
By accident, I recently discovered a new methodology, and I became excited. I tested it every day. I re-trained the fundamentals, and used a new method of practise for learning pieces. And every day I became better and better. I am finally able to tackle the complex, difficult and beautiful pieces I want to play, after many years of lost hope.
My motivation for tutoring is that I don't want other people to go through the same pain I did of not understanding why I wasn't improving when I was putting in the time to practise. I want to give beginners the foundation they need to be able to play whatever music they like, but I also want to make it fun, without too much technical music theory too soon. I believe theory should support action, or in this case theory should support playing the beautiful music.

Typical piano lessons focus on learning pieces set by the instructor that are appropriate for your level. It can lead to students playing music they don't like and feeling bored, when music playing should be fun.
My approach is to have the student send me a list of songs they like. I then find the scores, and simplify them if needed to the students level.
From the first lesson we will then start to learn these songs. Along the way we'll look at the fundamentals such as finger numbers, note names, hand positioning, etc... all the away up to chords, scales and counting rhythm. The main focus though is always on playing, and the technical stuff is used to improve playing.
We'll also look at something rarely covered in piano lessons, but which is super important; how to practise effectively, so that you learn quickly and make swift progress.
Lessons will be an hour long, and are suitable for any ages. These lessons are for beginner level piano players, or people looking to nail the basics. These lessons are not for intermediate or advanced level players. Feel free to message me to check if you're unsure if I'm right for you.
