About Matthew
My name is Matthew Simpson, and as a Year 13 student at Hauraki Plains College, I am deeply committed to excellence in both academics and sports. With a strong foundation in physics, endorsed Year 12 calculus, and high academic achievements, I am well-prepared to tutor primary school students in math. My leadership roles as head boy and sports leader, along with my experience in rowing and football, have honed my skills in discipline, teamwork, and communication. These experiences have taught me how to inspire, motivate, and guide others, which I bring into my tutoring approach. My background in coaching and mentoring, coupled with my dedication to achieving challenging goals, equips me to effectively support and encourage students, helping them build confidence and succeed in their studies.

In my tutoring sessions, I strive to make math both engaging and accessible for primary school students by employing interactive learning techniques. Using visual aids, games, and real-life examples, I aim to make abstract concepts more tangible and enjoyable. Each lesson, which typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes, is tailored to the individual needs and learning style of the student, ensuring they build a solid understanding before progressing. With two years of experience mentoring and coaching primary school kids and an endorsement in Year 12 Calculus, I provide a supportive environment where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities. My lessons are designed for students aged 6 to 11, focusing on making math a positive and enriching experience.
