About Charlotte
My personal passion for English has been growing since I was a young child, I value creativity (we all have it, no matter how much a child might think they don't) and I value commitment to learning about the world around you and using literature as a form of expression and personal understanding. The world of words is a wonderful place, it doesn't have to feel like school work, it can feel like opening your mind up to a multitude of feelings, ideas and knowledge.

I am a qualified English teacher (have a PGCE with QTS) with a BA Honours degree in English literature and creative writing. My teaching experience has given me the skills to teach KS3/4/GCSE as well as SEND and English as an additional language. My lessons are structured like it would be in a classroom, with a mix of short tasks focusing on vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and key terms used throughout all key stages (e.g. similes, metaphor, plosive alliteration, personification etc). I will also include key revision tips and practice tasks for essay writing and long writing tasks required for your children's classwork and GCSEs. Due to my teaching job I have access to a huge range of materials for you to use during your tutoring sessions, homework, classroom work and exam revision. I have a very broad knowledge of and experience of teaching the texts studied throughout high school, including Shakespeare plays, novels such as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and A Christmas Carol as well as plays studied from years 9-11. I also have an array of KS3 (years 7 & 8) experience, from WW1 poetry to Greek mythology. I have become accustomed to altering my lessons based on a child's specific needs and areas for improvement, whether that be phonics and spelling to how to structure a level 9 paragraph for a GCSE exam. The tutoring lessons I offer are 60-minute lessons and depending on desire and specific needs. I will also ask a series of questions about any weaker areas and needs to tailor their lessons to them specifically instead of covering subject matter they do not need extra help with.

I do not offer in-person tutoring due to the nature of my job, I am a full-time teacher which may mean my lessons will be conducted from my school setting (on ZOOM, Skype, etc) Your preferred form of online/webcam lessons will also be happily considered, I am here to help.
