About Bashar

I am a highly experienced British-Palestinian Arabic Language Coach with over 15 years of expertise in teaching Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and the Palestinian dialect.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching at prestigious UK government institutions, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD). I have also taught world-renowned celebrities and English Premier League football players, in addition to holding teaching positions at esteemed academic institutions such as the University of Cambridge and SOAS, where I earned my MA in Translation Studies.

Over the years, I have developed extensive experience working with high-profile clients, which has equipped me with the skills to interact with them comfortably and professionally—and to make them feel equally at ease. Coming from a different cultural background, I am not influenced by the "celebrity culture" prevalent in the West. This allows me to approach high-profile individuals as ordinary people, fostering respectful, grounded, and effective learning relationships.

Client confidentiality is a top priority in my teaching practice. I understand the unique needs of high-profile individuals and take every measure to ensure their privacy is fully respected and protected. All sessions are conducted with the utmost discretion, and no personal or professional details are ever shared. My reputation is built on trust, professionalism, and a deep respect for my clients’ privacy.

I usually conduct my classes online. However, if you prefer a full face-to-face course, we can discuss the details via email.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Arabic fluently because of my origins—I am a British Palestinian, and Arabic is the language of my home, family, and identity. However, my mastery of the language and my love for teaching it were deeply shaped by inspiring teachers and scholars I encountered throughout my academic journey. Their passion transformed Arabic for me from a native language into a lifelong intellectual and cultural pursuit.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I would choose the historical figure of the classical Arab poet Al-Mutanabbi. His eloquence, pride, philosophical depth, and command of language represent the richness and expressive power of Arabic. His poetry reflects both the beauty and the strength of the Arabic language and culture.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I love the word “صمود” (sumūd), which means steadfastness or resilience. It carries a deep cultural and emotional weight, especially in Palestinian dialect and culture. It reflects patience, dignity, and strength in difficult circumstances—values that are embedded in Arabic-speaking societies.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Arabic is not just a language to me—it is identity, memory, history, and worldview. It connects me to my heritage and allows me to understand the culture, literature, and politics of the Arab world from within. As a teacher, it also matters because I see language as a bridge between cultures. Teaching Arabic allows me to build those bridges and challenge stereotypes.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty in learning Arabic is listening comprehension. Many learners study grammar and vocabulary, but when they hear native speakers—especially in fast, natural conversation or different dialects—they struggle to understand.

This happens because Arabic sounds can be unfamiliar, speech can be fast, and dialects vary from one region to another. Also, native speakers often connect words, shorten vowels, or use expressions that learners have not encountered in textbooks.

What helps the process is consistent and guided listening practice. Students need exposure to real spoken Arabic from an early stage—through conversations, recordings, and media—combined with clear explanation and repetition. Training the ear is essential: once a learner can recognize sounds, rhythm, and patterns, their speaking and overall fluency improve naturally.

As a teacher, I focus strongly on listening exercises, controlled speaking practice, and exposure to both Modern Standard Arabic and Palestinian dialect, so that students become confident understanding real-life communication.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I remember as a child visiting family in Palestine and realising that although I spoke Arabic at home, I didn’t fully understand all the expressions used in daily life. One elderly relative told me a proverb that I completely misunderstood, and everyone laughed kindly. That moment stayed with me—it made me realise that true fluency is not just about vocabulary, but about culture, humor, and context. That realisation later shaped how I teach my students today.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Spending time in Palestine was transformative. Hearing the Palestinian dialect in markets, homes, and everyday conversations helped me develop a natural ear for rhythm, expressions, and cultural nuance. It also helped me understand the emotional tone behind words—something you cannot learn from textbooks alone.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I bring 15 years of teaching experience, working with students from beginner to C2 level. I specialize in Modern Standard Arabic, Palestinian dialect, and advanced composition and speaking skills.
What makes me stand out is my ability to combine:

Deep linguistic knowledge; cultural insight; exam preparation expertise; and engaging, student-centred teaching methods

I don’t just teach Arabic—I help students think in Arabic, feel confident speaking it, and understand the culture behind it.
