About Deirdre
I am a highly experienced writer, journalist, editor and communications professional with a strong academic background in English and the humanities. I have a degree in English and History, as well as two M.Phil degrees in humanities subjects, both awarded with distinction. I also have qualifications and professional training in communications and instructional design.
I have worked in journalism and am a published writer, and much of my professional career has involved helping other people communicate effectively. In corporate environments, I have edited the work of many non-native English speakers and have designed and delivered workshops on writing skills. I have also worked in instructional design, developing training and learning materials for professional audiences.
I enjoy working with people and helping them become more confident in their use of English. I am patient and approachable, but I will also give you constructive feedback when something could be expressed more clearly or naturally.
My lessons are adapted to the individual. Whether you want to improve your conversational English, become more confident writing at work, or simply feel more comfortable communicating in English, I will help you focus on the areas that matter most to you.

My lessons are practical, personalised and focused on helping you use English confidently and effectively in real-world situations.
I have extensive experience working with non-native English speakers in corporate environments, including editing and improving professional documents with highly technical content. I have also designed and delivered training and workshops on writing skills, helping people communicate their ideas clearly and professionally.
In our lessons, we can focus on whatever will be most useful to you: conversational English, professional communication, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, presentations, interviews or simply becoming more confident using English.
Rather than following a rigid textbook, I will tailor lessons to your needs, interests and level. We can work with real examples of the English you need in your everyday or professional life, and I can give you clear, constructive feedback on how to make your English more effective.
